Student Poster Contest 2018

The SGA Africa Student Poster Award sponsored by INPEA recognizes a current student, graduate or undergraduate, for excellence in research as reflected in an outstanding research poster presentation. The award hopes to encourage outstanding research in the area of Promoting the Human Rights of Older Persons and Elder Abuse Prevention.

Finalists will be selected from the current year’s accepted poster abstracts, and three student finalists will be selected and are required to PARTICIPATE IN THE CONFERENCE.  The finalists must make an oral presentation about their posters to the Committee judges prior to the announcement, and also present their poster to the wider audience of the conference.

Final Submission Deadline

All student poster abstracts entries must be submitted to sga.africa@gmail.com  by September 30th 2018

Final submission of accepted posters by Oct 15th 2018.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be registered students.
  • The poster/power point must address the chosen theme: “Our Region, Free of Elder Abuse ‘’. It must be research-based, conceptual or analytical, and contribute to the body of knowledge on aging aligning to the conference main theme.
  • The poster/power point must be of publishable quality.
  • The poster/power point must include sound methodology appropriate to the issues under investigation.
  • The poster/power point must discuss practice and policy implications.
  • The poster/power point must identify the institution with which the student is affiliated.
  • The poster/power point must include a separate statement from a faculty mentor verifying that the work was done while the applicant was a student, and that it represents the student’s efforts.
  • Students with accepted poster abstracts will receive a notification regarding the acceptance  and will be required to send two copies of a power point of the poster (one blind, one not) to email to sga.africa@gmail.com, along with the required faculty mentor statement by the final submission deadline.

Nature of Award

The recipient (author of winning poster) in each category receives a cash award:

  1. Best Poster $100 USD.
  2. Runner Up $75 USD.
  3. Emerging Issue, Conference Delegates Choice, $50 USD, and is recognized at the SGA Africa conference and Award Presentation.

Winning posters will be displayed on the SGA Africa and INPEA website.
